One of my favourite parts was the small Jim Aparo parody added in at the end.Īll in all a pretty bad trade, but worth seeing as it was a record breaking book at the time. That being I really dig the way he poses spidey and some of the work he does with the webbing etc. I wasn't a fan of the way he drew the Lizard and his panels are insanely busy. That being said I have heard that it captures a time in comics that was insanely art driven so it isn't surprising that story takes a back seat.ĭidn't know what to expect with the art, but now having read some of the first issues of Spawn this doesn't seem to be even close to his best work. This might be the worst written comic that I have read. The plotting is all over the place and the dialogue is corny and over the top. Before I bought this I noted the reviews were mostly negative and my experience was similar. I had heard about this trade as the original comics had sold insanely well at the time. I am relatively new to comics, so am trying to go back and check things out by some of the writers and artists that I have heard about. The story a powerful introduction to a new title and as a single volume it was a great read. Her motives become clear as the story develops but her magic is powerful and Spider-man is weakened and vulnerable as his battles with The Lizard have drained him – can Spider-man overcome the ferocity of these foes and get home to Mary Jane?Īrt is distinctive. Readers see that The Lizard is being influenced by a witch using blood and voodoo rituals to control her “pet”. The Lizard appears the most likely suspect, however, the brutality of the killings is not typical of his old foe.

#SPIDER MAN TORMENT SERIES#
Has time been kind to Torment? It was 1990 when I first read it and Spidey has gone through some major changes since then but I was happy to find that I enjoyed revisiting this story.Ī series of brutal murders in New York leads Peter Parker to suspect that a monster is stalking the city. Stark / Iron Man Steve Rogers / Kapitan Ameryka Bruce Banner / Hulk Pietro Maximoff / Quicksilver Clint Barton / Hawkeye Peter Parker / Spider-Man Bucky. I remember being blown away by Todd McFarlane’s artwork and this story of The Lizard on a relentless drive to kill Spider-man was not like any story I had encountered before. Torment was the story which flipped me from occasional comic book reader to serious comic collector. SPIDER-MAN 1 Torment Marvel Comics 1990 Silver Variant Todd McFarlane Spiderman.
